During uncertain times, self care is more important than ever. Self Care looks different for each individual but it is any deliberate activity done in order to take care of our emotional, mental, and physical health. Finding which type of self care suits you best and regularly practicing it is one of the most helpful tools for improving mood and reducing anxiety. Use this time to connect more deeply with yourself and find out which type of self care you like best! Here are four ways to add some self care into your routine!
1. Baths
Dipping into a hot bath after a long day not only helps you reconnect with yourself but it also aids in the release of bodily tension. Japanese bathing culture has long valued nightly bathing for its purifying and healing effects, and has a specialty bath at home called an ofuro. Create your own little ofuro and space just for yourself at home to carry out the beneficial ritual of healing baths! Make your bath extra relaxing by adding things like CBD bath bombs or magnesium flakes!
Healing Rose CBD Bath Soaks are locally made CBD bath salts that blend organic, high quality CBD with essential oils. CBD and essential oils make the perfect combination for relaxing and soothing sore muscles.
Magnesium Flakes made from magnesium chloride are a wonderful addition to any bath, especially at night! These flakes can relax and rejuvenate tired limbs and also support a better night’s sleep. Adding 1-2 cups of magnesium flakes to your bath or foot-bath and soaking for a minimum of 20 minutes is recommended!
Hot baths also fall into the category of passive heating (similar to a sauna) which has been found to be beneficial for immune health!
2. Self Massage
Feeling more tension than usual in your shoulders and jaw right now? Just a few minutes of gentle self massage on tender muscles can be the most effective treatment for minor muscle knots, and is a perfect way to support whole body relaxation.
We have trigger points or acupressure points all over our bodies that if massaged can create a “release” of local or referred pain in the body. Typically an oil or lotion is used during massage to create smoother strokes and not irritate the skin. Ralph’s CBD Salve is based in mango butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and hempseed oil making it an ideal texture for self massage. This locally made product also features CBD, arnica, and lavender essential oils which will greatly ease pain and release muscle tension.
3. At-Home Spa
Staying in on a weekend night doesn’t have to be a boring experience. Energize your night with some at-home spa treatments that will boost your mood and nourish your skin!
- Facials: Evan Healy French Rose Clay is an all natural, toxin free face mask that helps to refine, cleanse, and exfoliate without drying skin out! This facemask is perfect for a zoom ladies-spa night!
- Aromatherapy Shower: Choose a relaxing essential oil like lavender or eucalyptus and add a few drops to a damp sponge, washcloth, or loofah; place on the bottom of your shower floor and wait for the steam to release the scents and create a relaxing aroma bubble around yourself!
- Hair Conditioning Treatment: For a moisturizing treatment simply mash up some avocado and apply directly to your hair. For a protein-rich treatment combine 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 2 eggs; cover hair with a shower cap, and rinse after 15-30 minutes.
4. Burning Sage
The way a space smells can greatly affect your mood since smell is highly emotive. In our current state of staying indoors more than usual it’s imperative that we keep our spaces smelling pleasant, so we can keep our moods lifted!
Whether it’s lighting candles, opening a window, diffusing essential oils, or burning sage, take the time to elevate the scent in your home!
White sage is an incense that is typically burned for cleansing and sending out prayers. It’s perfect before or after spring cleaning and leaves a woodsy, herbaceous, and slightly astringent scent that will uplift your space and allow for good energy into your home!
